A motorcyclist died after a collision with a car at a Shirley intersection Thursday evening, police said.

Francis Start Jr., 24, of Shirley, was riding a 2001 Suzuki motorcycle west on Floyd Road at 6:25 p.m., Suffolk police said. Joseph Viccora, 47, of Shirley, who was driving a 1987 Mercury east on Floyd, was making a left turn onto Essex Circle and the vehicles crashed, police said.

Start was taken to Brookhaven Memorial Hospital Medical Center in East Patchogue, where he was pronounced dead, police said. Viccora was not injured.

Detectives asked that anyone with information about the crash call the Seventh Squad at 631-852-8752.
