A motorcyclist injured in a crash last week in North Haven was in "grave condition" Monday, Southampton Town police said.

Police Monday identified the motorcyclist as Santiago V. Velay, 34, of Florida.

Velay was airlifted to Stony Brook University Hospital with unspecified injuries after the crash Wednesday evening on Route 114 in North Haven, police said. He remains at the hospital.

Southampton Town police said the driver of a 2003 Jeep Liberty involved in the crash was not injured.

The accident occurred at 7:05 p.m. near the intersection of Fresh Pond Road, police said.

Police said the motorcyclist, on a 2000 Honda, was headed north on Route 114 when he "lost control of his motorcycle and rear-ended a vehicle in front of him while traveling in the same direction," police said in a news release Monday.

Police officers from Southampton and Sag Harbor responded to the scene, as did Sag Harbor Ambulance and volunteers from the Sag Harbor Fire Department.

Both vehicles were impounded for a safety check. Police said they are not expecting to file criminal charges.
