Police responding to a 911 hang-up call interviewed a man and woman who said they were robbed by armed, masked men -- but who later became "uncooperative," telling the officers they "didn't want to pursue the matter."
The reported robbery occurred at about 3:30 p.m. Wednesday at a house on Maplewood Lane in Riverhead, Riverhead Town police said.
Police said that after the 911 hang-up, their Enhanced 911 system tracked the call to the house, where police were dispatched.
There, a man, 40, and a woman, 38, told officers they were walking to a car in their driveway when two men wearing masks "came up behind them," displayed a handgun and ordered them back into the home. Once inside, police said, the couple told them the gunmen stole "a bag containing cash" from a bedroom closet, then went outside and stole another bag of cash from the vehicle in the driveway.
Police said a K-9 team then searched for the gunmen, but did not find them. The investigation is continuing.
