Cops probe graffiti on mosque as hate crime

Suffolk County Crime Stoppers and the Suffolk Hate Crimes Unit are investigating the painting of graffiti on a North Bay Shore mosque as a hate crime, police said Friday.

Police are trying to determine who painted two phrases on the exterior walls of the Masjid Darul Quran mosque at 1514 E. 3rd Ave.

The phrases "RIP US Ambassador" and "The War Will Rise" were painted on the walls some time between Wednesday and Thursday last week, police said.

Anyone with information can call Crime Stoppers at 800-220-8477. All calls will be kept confidential.
