Suffolk County police said Hulse was struck as he walked east on Park Street, west of Rustic Road, in Centereach at about 12:45 a.m. on Dec. 21.

The vehicle that struck and killed Hulse is believed to be painted metallic red and "may have sustained damage" to the windshield and to black plastic panels on the underside, police said. It was not clear what evidence recovered at the scene might eventually link the accident to a specific vehicle.

Police are asking anyone with information regarding the incident to call Crime Stoppers at 800-220-TIPS. All calls will remain confidential and callers are eligible for cash reward of up to $5,000 for any information leading to an arrest.
