A gunman with a distinctive tattoo on his neck robbed a Medford pet supply store Tuesday afternoon, then pulled down a rack of shelves after getting the cash, Suffolk County police said Thursday in asking for the public's help to nab him.

The robber pushed an employee at Petland Discounts, at 2799 Rte. 112, at about 4:15 p.m. Tuesday, displayed a gun and demanded cash, police said.

The unshaven man had a tattoo of a skull outlined in black behind his left ear and wore a black baseball cap with a white "A" on the front, police said Thursday. He has brown hair and is about 5-foot-10 with a thin build, police said.

Detectives are not sure why the robber pulled down the rack of shelves by the cash register as he fled, but surmise he may have been hoping the toppled stuffed animals and assorted merchandise would get in the way of anyone trying to chase him.

The employee was not injured, police said.
