Cops: Shirley man charged with DWI after crash

A Shirley man was arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated after police said he crashed his car into a pickup truck in Mastic on Monday evening, injuring two people and himself.

A female passenger in the pickup truck, Jennifer Suydam, 27, was ejected in the crash and suffered serious injuries, Suffolk County police said.

She was transported by the Mastic Ambulance Company to Brookhaven Memorial Hospital Center in East Patchogue. Her condition was not immediately known on Tuesday.

Arrested was Shad Teter, 42, of 187 Carlton Drive East. He was charged with DWI.

Police said Teter was driving a 2000 Ford Focus when he crashed into the 2000 Nissan pickup truck near the intersection of Carlton Avenue and Herkimer Street in Mastic at about 7:50 p.m. Monday.

The driver of the pickup, identified as Michael Facchiano, 29, was taken along with Teter to Brookhaven via Shirley Community Ambulance. Police said both men had unspecified injuries.

The investigation into the crash is continuing.

Police are asking anyone with information into the accident to call Vehicular Crime Unit detectives at 631-852-6555. All calls will remain confidential, police said.

Teter in scheduled for arraignment Tuesday in First District Court in Central Islip.
