Three people were injured when a sport utility vehicle crashed into a pizza restaurant in Riverhead on Friday afternoon, police said.

Riverhead police said the accident occurred shortly before 4:30 p.m. at the Pizza Hut at Old Country Road and Roanoke Avenue. The SUV was traveling in the Old Country Road traffic circle when it collided with another vehicle.

The driver of the SUV lost control, police said, crossed over the median and struck a second vehicle in the traffic circle. The SUV then entered the Pizza Hut parking lot, striking a third vehicle before hitting a side entrance to the restaurant.

A wall and beams inside the building were damaged, according to a witness who asked not to be identified.
