A five-car pileup on the westbound Long Island Expressway in Dix Hills caused massive traffic delays during Wednesday morning's rush-hour, officials said.

Suffolk County police said the crash occurred about 9:20 a.m. in the HOV lane of the westbound roadway between Exit 53, Wicks Road and the Sagtikos Parkway, and Exit 51, Route 231-Deer Park Avenue. The crash closed the HOV lane and caused a traffic backup to Exit 53.

Tow trucks and flatbed trucks were called to the scene for cleanup, police and fire officials said. Volunteers from the Dix Hills Fire Department also went the scene, after officials said one person reported suffering chest pains. No one was seriously injured, police said.

It was not immediately clear if anyone had been transported to a hospital for treatment.
