A former director in a Lindenhurst community theater group was convicted Tuesday of possessing child pornography, Suffolk County prosecutors said.

Vincent Sparagano, 44, of 530 S. Ninth St., Lindenhurst, was found guilty in a jury trial of four felony counts of possessing a sexual performance by a child, according to a news release from the office of Suffolk County District Attorney Thomas Spota.

The jury also found Sparagano not guilty of four felony counts of promoting a sexual performance by a child.

Sparagano faces up to 1 1/3 years to 4 years in prison on each count, which could run consecutive because of his possession of four separate images of child pornography, prosecutors said.

Sparagano, a former production director for The Spotlight Players, was registered as a sex offender and was remanded on a bail of $50,000 cash or $100,000 bond.

Sparagano's trial lasted three weeks. Sentencing is scheduled for May 29.

Detectives from the Suffolk County police Computer Crimes Unit, assisting probation officers, found images of child pornography on Sparagano's computer in 2012. At the time, he was on probation for a prior conviction of endangering the welfare of a teenager active in The Spotlight Players, according to the release.

He was arrested on child porn charges in September 2012.
