The accident briefly closed the right lane until about 2 p.m., according to informny.com, the state department of transportation's website.

Police believe the crash was caused by driver inattention. Responding officers said they found Pedro was driving with a suspended license and they issued him a citation.

None of the van's passengers were injured, though Pedro had to be extricated from the vehicle by emergency services. He was transported to Stony Brook University Hospital with minor injuries. The truck driver was not injured.
