A Farmingville man was cited for driving with a suspended license after the passenger van he was driving rear-ended a box truck Thursday on the Long Island Expressway, Suffolk County police said.
Max Pedro, 19, was driving a van with seven passengers eastbound on the LIE in Ronkonkoma about 12:30 p.m. when the van ran into the truck driving in front of it, police said.
The accident briefly closed the right lane until about 2 p.m., according to informny.com, the state department of transportation's website.
Police believe the crash was caused by driver inattention. Responding officers said they found Pedro was driving with a suspended license and they issued him a citation.
None of the van's passengers were injured, though Pedro had to be extricated from the vehicle by emergency services. He was transported to Stony Brook University Hospital with minor injuries. The truck driver was not injured.
