Arson Squad detectives are investigating a fire that destroyed an sport utility vehicle Thursday night in Farmingville -- a fire police believe is a criminal act.

The vehicle, a 2002 GMC sport utility vehicle with an attached landscaping trailer, was parked on Adirondack Drive when Suffolk County police said a 911 call reported it had been set on fire at about 9 p.m.

Volunteers from the Selden Fire Department responded to the scene and extinguished the blaze, which engulfed the SUV, destroying it. The vehicle was unoccupied, and police said there were no injuries.
