Five businesses busted for selling alcohol to minors

Five of 17 businesses investigated in a weekend sting operation were found to have sold alcohol to minors in Ronkonkoma, Commack, Lake Grove and Kings Park police said.

Five employees of the businesses were issued field appearance tickets during the sting operation conducted on Friday and Saturday nights and will appear at First District Court in Central Islip at a later day, Suffolk County police said.

Two people were charged Friday night in Lake Grove -- Connor Popolo, 20, of Nesconset, employed at a Citgo gas station, at 2691 Middle Country Rd., and Dhan Maharjan, 41, of Lake Grove, employed at a Gulf gas station, at 3089 Middle Country Rd.

Those charged Saturday night include: Cristobal Caal, 31, of Bay Shore, employed at a Citgo gas station, at 100 Crooked Hill Rd., Commack; Etna Cornielle, 19, of Bay Shore, employed at a Hess gas station, at 152 E. Northport Rd., Kings Park; and Evren Altunay, 33, of Kings Park, employed at a BP station, at 94 Pulaski Rd., Kings Park.

All five people were charged with unlawfully dealing with a minor, a misdemeanor.

The Fourth Precinct crime section conducted the underage sting.
