Five Pearl Harbor survivors were honored for their service during a ceremony at the American Airpower Museum at Republic Airport in Farmingdale on Friday that paid tribute to the more than 2,400 American lives lost when Japan launched a surprise attack on the U.S. Navy base 71 years ago. As a chaplain blessed 71 red roses -- one for every anniversary of the attack on Pearl Harbor -- five survivors looked on in a chilly airplane hangar Friday.
Following the solemn observance at the American Airpower Museum at Republic Airport in Farmingdale, the flowers were loaded on a World War II-era plane.
