Suffolk County police said they are investigating a two-vehicle crash in front of the Smith Haven Mall in Lake Grove Wednesday that injured four, including two critically.
Christopher Ferchland, 34, was driving a 2007 Lincoln pickup truck west on Middle Country Road at about 7 p.m. when he struck a 2015 Honda Crosstour driven by Jeanette Acevedo, 50, who was traveling east and attempting to make a left turn into the mall.
Ferchland's pickup then hit a utility pole.
Ferchland, of Farmingville, and his passenger, a woman, were taken to Stony Brook University Hospital where they are listed in critical condition.
Acevedo, of Brentwood, and her passenger, a woman, also were taken to Stony Brook with non-life-threatening injuries.
Nesconset Fire Department Chief James Keane said one vehicle was turned over on its side, and its occupants, a man and a woman, were "severely entrapped" and had to be extricated.
Both vehicles were impounded for safety checks and the investigation is continuing.
Detectives are asking anyone with information about the crash to contact the Fourth Squad at 631-854-8452.
