A 17-year-old Brentwood girl who nearly drowned in the water off Robert Moses State Park remained in serious condition Sunday, according to Stony Brook University Hospital officials.

Bria Key was rescued Friday afternoon, when two beachgoers alerted state park police officers that Key and two other friends were struggling to swim back to shore.

Key was unconscious when she was pulled from the water, and airlifted to Stony Brook University Hospital where she remains hospitalized. Her friends, Kevin Palomino and Cheyenne Costales, both 18, of Bay Shore, were treated and released from Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center in West Islip on Friday.

The trio was rescued by State Park Police Officer Nathan Sibenik, 28, and Ryan Mathie, 20, of Smithtown, an off-duty lifeguard. The pair grabbed the 18-year-olds and brought them to shore, and then went back for Key, Sibenik said.
