A girl was airlifted to a hospital on Saturday after she was knocked unconscious when a boat her father was operating ran aground, Southampton Town police said.

Robert Lorusso, 52, of Upper Brookville, was operating a 38-foot Sea Ray power boat in West Shinnecock Bay when he ran it aground south of Tiana Bay, police said.

The impact caused Lorusso's 12-year-old daughter to fall inside the boat's cabin, knocking her unconscious, police said.

Southampton Town Bay Constables and a member of the Hampton Bays Volunteer Ambulance Company went to the boat and determined that the girl needed to go to the hospital, police said.

The girl was taken by the U.S. Coast Guard to Station Shinnecock, where Suffolk police aviation picked her up and flew her to Stony Brook University Hospital. She was treated for head and neck injuries and released, police said.
