Arriving firefighters saw flames shooting out of the roof, windows and front door, he said.

A female resident who was outside in the yard was taken to Eastern Long Island Hospital in Greenport with unknown injuries, Kalin said. A firefighter was treated for minor injuries.

The unidentified man killed in the fire was found in a front room where the blaze appeared to have started, according to Kalin. The cause is under investigation.

A household pet also died in the fire, Kalin said.
