High court issues search ruling from Wyandanch case
The U.S. Supreme Court ruled Tuesday that police with a warrant to search a Long Island man's apartment did not have the authority to detain him when he was at a considerable distance from his home.
The court ruled 6-3 that the power of police to detain people is confined to the immediate vicinity of the premises for which they have obtained a search warrant.
