The Huntington Town Board will hold a public hearing next month on a proposal that would limit where hookah lounges and vape bars may operate in an effort to slow their proliferation.

The Aug. 16 hearing will give residents and business owners a chance to speak out on the legislation, which would prohibit hookah and vape lounges from operating within 1,500 feet of any park, playground, religious institution, or school.

The proposal would prohibit such businesses from operating out of mixed-use buildings that contain residences. It would also limit vape and hookah bars to one per lot, and restrict them to certain commercial and industrial districts within the town.
