Cops: Driver charged with DWI after fatally hitting bicyclist in Southampton

A Southampton man, driving while intoxicated, struck and killed a bicyclist on Friday night in Southampton, police said.

Neil Fyfe, 29, of Jupiter, Florida, was attempting to cross County Road 39 heading south at Sandy Hollow Road shortly before 6:30 p.m. when he was struck by a 1990 Jeep traveling east.

Passersby in the area performed CPR on Fyfe, but he was pronounced dead at Southampton Hospital a short time later.

The driver of the Jeep, Jesse W. Steudte, 21, was treated at the scene for minor injuries and was charged with driving while intoxicated.

The investigation is continuing and detectives ask that anyone with information about the crash to call 631-702-2230.
