Three Brentwood men were held charged with raping a 16-year-old girl in the woods by a Brentwood golf course this weekend.
The three men charged were Jose Cornejo, 17, Bryan Larios, 18, and Joel Escobar, 17. All were charged with first-degree rape, first-degree criminal sex act and second-degree robbery. Cornejo was also charged with first-degree sexual abuse.
Suffolk County police arrested the three late Friday night. They were arraigned in Suffolk County District Court in Central Islip and held without bail Sunday.PhotosGang violence on Long IslandDataLI crime stats
Cornejo and Escobar are from El Salvador and are believed to be MS-13 gang members, Suffolk County Assistant District Attorney Lawrence Opisso said in court.
Prosecutors said they approached the girl near an unnamed Brentwood middle school Friday about 6 p.m., robbing and attacking her and a male with her.
The male ran away after the men hit him and stole his iPad; the assailants said they had a gun, but did not show a weapon, Opisso said.
Authorities said the three men took the girl to Brentwood Country Club and raped her in the nearby woods. She was later found naked in the woods by golfers.
Suffolk County police Sunday had no comment on the case.
