The body of a novice kiteboarder was found in Napeague Harbor Sunday after police said anxious relatives went looking for the Brooklyn man when he failed to return to a home in Bridgehampton.

The victim was identified by East Hampton Town Police as Nicholas Valtz, 39. The cause of death is pending an autopsy by the Suffolk County medical examiner, police said.

Police said the body was found by relatives in a grassy area of the harbor near Lazy Point Road at about 2 p.m. Valtz was still secured to his kite and to the associated kite gear, police said.

It was not immediately clear when Valtz had gone kiteboarding -- or how long overdue he was when relatives went searching for him.

Police said the investigation is continuing and asked anyone with information to call 631-537-7575.
