A Lake Ronkonkoma woman is scheduled to appear Monday in an upstate court after being arrested on drug-possession charges during a traffic stop last week on Route 17B in the Town of Thompson, state police said.

Michelle Crain, 29, was charged with three counts of unlawful possession of marijuana after her arrest during the stop in Sullivan County at 8:15 p.m. Jan. 17, police said.

Police said the vehicle was initially stopped for a nonworking license plate light and that during that stop troopers noticed "a strong odor" of marijuana coming from the vehicle. During the ensuing investigation, police said, Crain admitted having a glass smoking pipe that contained marijuana residue and police said a search found 19 grams of marijuana wrapped in a plastic bag.

A small amount of marijuana was found in an additional metal container, police said.

Crain is due to appear in Town of Thompson Court on Jan. 27, police said.
