Levy offers compromise on budget

Suffolk County Executive Steve Levy Monday proposed "a compromise" in a series of budget vetoes, offering to hire 50 of the 200 officers lawmakers sought and putting 50 more civilians in police jobs so more cops can be on the streets.
But top legislative officials Monday night said that county lawmakers were unlikely to go along with the proposal.
