LI woman: Gang 'stole my soul' in hammer attack

A woman beaten in the face with a hammer when a gang ransacked her East Moriches home said Thursday her attackers "stole my soul," as two of them were sentenced to 50 years in prison.

Valerie Sappah, a nurse in her mid-50s, told Suffolk County Court Judge James Hudson that her children must care for her after she needed 80 stitches to close the wounds suffered during the June 16, 2007, attack....
