A Lindenhurst man is in critical condition after he suffered a medical emergency while driving in West Babylon Tuesday and struck another car head-on, Suffolk police said.

Police said Joseph Uss was driving a 2011 Honda CRV westbound on Montauk Highway about 4 p.m. when he had a medical emergency. Uss lost control of his car, which then crossed over into the eastbound lane and struck a 2003 Saturn Vue head-on just west of Great East Neck Road.

Police said the driver of the Saturn, Lindenhurst resident Jessica Klein, 21, suffered minor injuries.

Uss, 64, of Lindenhurst, was taken to Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center in West Islip, where he is listed in critical condition. Police said hospital staff were able to determine that Uss had suffered a medical emergency while driving, but would not provide further details on the exact cause.

Both cars were impounded for safety checks, police said, and the investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information on the crash is asked to call the First Squad at 631-854-8152.
