Midday trains between Huntington and Port Jefferson will be replaced by bus service Wednesday and Thursday because of special rail inspections, the Long Island Rail Road said.

Also, on Saturday and Sunday, late-night and early morning service on the Babylon branch will be affected between Rockville Centre and Wantagh.

On the Port Jefferson line, the special rail inspections will be performed by the Sperry Rail Car, which is fitted with ultrasonic and induction test equipment designed to detect internal rail defects. The car is used twice annually to inspect about 500 miles of LIRR track.

Port Jefferson line passengers should allow an extra half-hour travel time on eastbound trains and about an hour extra on westbound trains, the LIRR said.
