Long Island dog left in Dumpster survives

A gray and white Lhasa apso found by a homeless man rummaging through a gas station Dumpster in West Islip on Christmas Eve is recovering at Islip Town's animal shelter in Bay Shore. She's been nicknamed Miracle by shelter staff. Michael Papini, 30, of Lindenhurst, himself an Islip Town animal shelter employee, faces animal cruelty charges for allegedly leaving the dog in a gas station Dumpster in West Islip. (Dec. 28, 2013)
