A Hampton Bays man, airlifted to Stony Brook University Hospital after he crashed his car into a tree in Water Mill on Sunday, was later arrested and charged with drunken driving and driving without a license, as well as on outstanding bench warrants, police said.

And, Southampton Town Police said, Luis A. Reyes, 24, also was wanted by U.S. Customs and Immigration -- though it was not immediately clear what for.

Police said Reyes crashed his car into the tree after veering off Montauk Highway at about 9:30 p.m. Sunday -- not long after, police said, they had received 911 calls reporting an "erratic motorist" on the road.

After the crash, police said Reyes was airlifted to Stony Brook by Suffolk County police helicopter. He was later arrested there, charged with driving while intoxicated, first-degree aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, unlicensed operator -- and with failure to maintain lane.

Police said his license had previously been suspended.

Reyes was arraigned Tuesday and remanded to the Suffolk County jail in lieu of $20,000 bail, police said.
