A 27-year-old man was killed in West Babylon Tuesday morning when he was struck by a pickup truck as he tried to cross Sunrise Highway near Hubbard's Path, police said.

Suffolk County police said Jervon Branch was struck by a westbound 2002 Dodge pickup driven by James Jacoutot, 48, of Holbrook, at 2:32 a.m.

Branch, of West Babylon, was taken to Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center by the West Babylon Fire Department, but died at 3:09 a.m., police said. No charges were filed against Jacoutot, though his pickup was impounded for a safety check.

Police closed westbound Sunrise Highway for several hours for an accident investigation.

Police are asking anyone who may have witnessed the accident to call First Squad detectives at 631-854-8152 or Crime Stoppers at 800-220-TIPS.

All calls will remain confidential, police said.

Sunrise Highway is closed to pedestrian crossings in the area where the accident occurred. There are overpasses used to cross the divided highway.
