A Miller Place man was arrested in the Walt Whitman Shops parking lot in Huntington Station Thursday night after Suffolk detectives identified him as the suspect in a bank robbery, police said.
Police said Max Schneider, 26, was located by Pattern Crime Unit and Larceny Task Force detectives as he pulled into the mall parking lot, at 160 Walt Whitman Rd., about 5:45 p.m. in a 2012 Honda Civic. Police said Schneider tried to escape, and his Honda crashed into two detective vehicles before he was taken into custody.
Schneider, of Harrison Avenue, was charged with third-degree robbery, criminal mischief, reckless endangerment and violation of a parole warrant, police said.StoryCops: Bank robber escapes on footDataLI crime stats
Police said Schneider is suspected of robbing a Capital One Bank at 366 Route 25A in Rocky Point at about 9 a.m. Tuesday. A suspect gave a bank teller a note demanding cash, the teller complied, and the suspect fled with an unknown amount of money, police said.
At the time, police described the suspect as 30 to 40 years old, about 6 feet tall and wearing a black coat.
