Mother of newborn seriously injured in East Shoreham crash
A 23-year-old mother, driving with her newborn baby, was seriously hurt when her car was hit head-on by a car whose driver was high on drugs Tuesday in East Shoreham, police said.
Denis Karachopan, 24, of Rocky Point, who police said was driving west on Route 25A, and whose 2000 BMW "crossed over" and struck the woman's 2008 Nissan, was arrested and charged with driving under the influence of drugs.
Karachopan's arraignment information was not immediately available. A department spokeswoman said a call came in at 11:07 a.m. about an accident at Blackfoot Trail.
Eastbound Route 25A, which was closed between Miller Avenue and William Floyd Parkway, was reopened, the state Department of Transportation website said.
