A Melville man on a motorcycle who was speeding in an attempt to pass an automobile was killed in a two-vehicle crash Tuesday evening in Cold Spring Harbor, Suffolk County police said.

Andrew Garafalo, 21, was driving a 2007 Kawasaki motorcycle south on Woodbury Road at a high rate of speed when he crossed a double yellow line, striking a 2001 Nissan SUV as it made a turn north onto the road, police said.

Police were called to the scene of Woodbury and Saw Mill roads at 4:50 p.m. The victim was taken to Huntington Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, authorities said.

The driver of the Nissan, Sean Phillips Mayoka, 19, of Cold Spring Harbor, was not injured, authorities said.

Both vehicles were impounded for a safety check, according to police.

Detectives are asking anyone with any information to contact Suffolk County Second Squad at 631-854-8252.
