A Suffolk County police officer and a Good Samaritan rescued a 97-year-old woman Saturday afternoon from her submerged car in Bay Shore, authorities said.
The vehicle was already under water at the Bay Shore Marina when Third Precinct patrol officers responded at 1:11 p.m., police said.
Police received a 911 call reporting that a woman had driven her Nissan Altima off the end of Clinton Avenue.
Officer Nicholas Aspromgos discovered the woman with water up to her neck inside the car. The windows were rolled up and the doors locked, police said.
Aspromgos broke the window and pulled the woman out. The officer and the Good Samaritan teamed to take her to the dock.
The victim was taken to Southside Hospital in Bay Shore with non-life-threatening injuries, police said.
It wasn't immediately clear what caused the accident. Members of the Marine Bureau pulled the vehicle from the water.
