Pair charged in Deer Park bank robbery

Two Wyandanch men were arrested Thursday, just minutes after police said they robbed a bank in Deer Park.

Leroy Greene, 46, and Leo Johnson, 42, were each charged with second-degree robbery after their arrests at 12:25 p.m., Suffolk County police said. Police said Greene also was charged with third-degree robbery in connection with the robbery of a Chase Bank on Woods Road in North Babylon on March 12.

Johnson also was charged with fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon.

Police said the pair, whose home addresses were not immediately available, entered a Chase Bank on Deer Park Avenue about noon Thursday -- one of them approaching a teller and handing over a demand note, stating he had a gun.

The teller complied and handed over cash, police said. The two then fled.

Police said responding officers quickly located Greene and Johnson, arresting them at 12:25 p.m. Investigation by detectives from the Pattern Crime Unit then linked Greene to the prior robbery, police said.

Both men were arraigned Friday. Greene was held on a bail of $75,000 bond or $25,000 cash, and Johnson was held on a bail of $25,000 bond or $10,000 cash.

Police are asking that anyone with information about the robberies to call Crime Stoppers at 800-220-TIPS. All calls will remain confidential.
