A Dix Hills man was killed in a one-car crash that closed the eastbound Long Island Expressway in Melville for several hours Sunday morning, Suffolk County police said.

Blake Marcus, 20, was driving a 2001 Acura eastbound on the LIE east of Exit 49 at about 4:25 a.m. when police said it appeared he lost control of the vehicle and hit a guardrail.

The vehicle went through the guardrail and slid down an embankment into a wooded area, police said.

Marcus and his passenger, Dorian America, 21, of Wheatley Heights, were freed from the wreckage by rescuers from the Suffolk County Police Emergency Service Section and the Melville Fire Department and taken to Nassau University Medical Center in East Meadow.

Marcus was pronounced dead at the hospital, while America was treated for nonlife-threatening injuries, police said.

The crash caused all eastbound lanes of the LIE to be closed for about six hours Sunday morning. The expressway has since reopened.

Police impounded the vehicle for a safety inspection, and the investigation is continuing. Police ask anyone with any information about this crash to call the Second Squad at 631-854-8252.
