Suffolk County police have identified a swimmer who went missing off Fire Island and was later found dead on a beach near Davis Park East.

Ryan Risco, 26, of Peekskill, was reported missing about 2:45 a.m. Tuesday when a friend called to say he had disappeared in the water.

His body washed up midmorning near the Fire Island beach.

The discovery capped an intensive search that covered more than 21 square nautical miles, despite winds of between 15 and 18 knots and seas of 4- to 6-feet.

After the 911 call, a helicopter from Coast Guard Air Station Cape Cod and a rescue boat from Coast Guard Station Fire Island were dispatched to the scene, officials said.

Risco was an actor who performed in many musicals, a die-hard Yankees fan and an honorary "Ghostbuster," according to an online obituary posted by the E.O. Curry Funeral Home Inc. in Peekskill.

A funeral Mass will be offered at 10 a.m. Monday at the Church of the Assumption, 131 Union Ave., Peekskill.
