Police ID teen bicyclist killed by car in Smithtown
A 15-year-old bicyclist was struck by a car and killed in Smithtown yesterday afternoon, Suffolk police said.
Nicholas Svercel of Ronkonkoma was crossing Route 347 northbound at Terry Road at 4 p.m., police said, when he was struck by a westbound 1999 Mazda driven by Alex Helkin, 25, of Farmingdale. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
