An Islip Terrace woman was arrested Monday afternoon and charged with stealing thousands of dollars and the identity of her ailing grandmother to support a prescription drug habit, police said.

Suffolk County police arrested Elise Sandberg, 33, at 3:30 p.m. at her home at 255 Islip Blvd., police said.

Sandberg used her grandmother's identity to open a credit card account to pay for Oxycodone prescriptions, police said. Police said she consumed about a dozen pills daily.

Sandberg also used the card to make cash advances, purchase food and pay for other expenses, incurring more than $5,000 in charges over two weeks, police said.

Sandberg is charged with one count of third-degree grand larceny and first-degree identify theft, authorities said. She will be arraigned Tuesday at First District Court in Central Islip.
