A 53-year-old man was struck by a car and killed Thursday evening as he attempted to cross the William Floyd Parkway in Shirley, police said.

Sophan Korur, of Shirley, was struck by a southbound 2009 Toyota Camry driven by Angela Gonzalez, 26, of Patchogue, as he crossed the parkway at 7:17 p.m., Suffolk County police said.

He was transported to Brookhaven Memorial Hospital Medical Center in East Patchogue, where police said he died a short time later. Gonzalez was not injured in the crash.

Police said the investigation into the accident is continuing and asked anyone who might have information regarding the incident to call Seventh Squad detectives at 631-852-8752. All calls will remain confidential.
