A fatal crash possibly caused by wet roads killed a 46-year-old Riverhead man early Saturday morning, police said.

John Scorzelli Jr. of Riverhead was pronounced dead at Peconic Bay Medical Center shortly after the 12:30 a.m. crash on Sound Avenue east of Horton Avenue in Riverhead, police said.

Scorzelli's 2006 Mazda sedan was traveling eastbound around a bend in the road when his car entered the westbound lane, in the path of a 2005 Kia sport utility vehicle driven by Lia Fallon, 43, of Port Jefferson, Riverhead police Det. Michael Schmidt said.

The vehicles collided, injuring both drivers, who were taken to the hospital.

Fallon suffered minor injuries, Schmidt said.

The investigation is pending. Drugs, alcohol or speed do not appear to be contributing factors, Schmidt said.

"It appears to be weather related," Schmidt said. "There's a curve in the roadway. There have been other accidents in the past there. It hasn't been a major issue but there have been other accidents there."
