A 21-year-old man was arrested Monday, after police found more than 17 grams of heroin in a Port Jefferson Station apartment, Suffolk police said.

Juan Diaz, 21, of 73 Ontario St., was arrested and charged with two counts of criminal possession of a controlled substance, 3rd degree; one count of criminal possession of a controlled substance, 7th degree; criminal use drug paraphernalia, 2nd degree; and unlawful possession of marijuana, police said. He also was charged with endangering the welfare of a child because a 15-year-old person was in his apartment, police said.

Diaz is scheduled to be arraigned Tuesday at First District Court in Central Islip.

Police searched the basement apartment at the Ontario Street location about 4:30 p.m., where they said they found the heroin.

Officers seized more than 17 grams of heroin, with an estimated street value of $5,500, and drug paraphernalia, police said.

About a dozen officers participated in the search, including members from narcotics, emergency services, canine and the Sixth Precinct. The last officer left the scene about 7:35 p.m.

Police said they didn't know who was living in other parts of the white, raised-ranch house, since the search warrant was only for the basement apartment.

Diaz also was arrested Friday and charged with menacing. He also was arrested on May 13 and charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance, according to online court records.
