Manhattan man faces drug charges in Northern State crash
A Manhattan man was high on drugs when he overturned his sport utility vehicle Wednesday on the Northern State Parkway in Dix Hills, State Police said.
Rehan Khan, 24, was taken to Huntington Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries after losing control of a Toyota Sequoia near Exit 42, Route 231, of the westbound parkway at about 3:30 p.m., police said.
The vehicle struck the concrete barrier before rolling over, police said.
While attending to Khan's vehicle, troopers detected a strong odor of marijuana, according to a news release.
They recovered more than 3 pounds of marijuana and a quarter-ounce of concentrated cannabis -- a wax form of marijuana -- 58 narcotic pills and drug paraphernalia from Khan's SUV, police said.
Khan was charged with criminal possession of marijuana, criminal possession of a controlled substance, several misdemeanors for possessing drug paraphernalia and driving while his ability was impaired by drugs, police said.
He is expected to be arraigned Friday.
