Cops: Man menaced police with barbecue fork

A Cutchogue man is under arrest after he threatened police officers with a large barbecue fork, Southold Town police said.

Authorities received a call about 9:30 a.m. Saturday about a man carrying a hammer and banging on doors at a home on Cox Lane.

Police arrived and found Robert Sullivan, 52, carrying a barbecue fork. Sullivan advanced on an officer, police said, and was ordered numerous times to drop the weapon.

Sullivan eventually complied and was placed under arrest, police said.

He was found in possession of heroin, hypodermic needles and marijuana, police said.

Sullivan is charged with menacing and criminal possession of a controlled substance.

Arraignment details were not immediately available.
