A Bay Shore man was charged with driving while intoxicated after he struck another vehicle in Brentwood on Saturday morning, injuring the driver and her female passenger, Suffolk police said.
Ronald Cherry, 44, of Sonia Road, was driving a 2006 Chevrolet Malibu at 1:52 a.m. and heading east on Spur Drive North when his vehicle struck a 2008 Toyota Avalon, which was traveling west on the roadway, police said.
Bernadette Joachim-Baker, 43, of Miami, the driver of the Avalon, was taken to Southside Hospital in Bay Shore for treatment of minor injuries. Her passenger, Melissa Joseph, 21, of Brentwood, was being treated at Southside for serious injuries, police said.
Four other Toyota passengers, whose names police did not immediately release, were taken to Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center in West Islip for various injuries, police said.
Cherry, who police said was also treated for minor injuries at Southside, will be held overnight and was scheduled to be arraigned Sunday in First District Court in Central Islip.
