A passenger was in serious but stable condition Tuesday after suffering a brain injury when the car he was riding in crashed on the Long Island Expressway late Monday, Suffolk County police said.

Ryan Brennan, 17, of Deer Park, who had been riding in the rear seat, was taken to Stony Brook University Medical Center after the crash at 10:20 p.m. near Exit 60 in Lake Ronkonkoma, police said.

The driver, Robert Mangum, 21, of Deer Park, and a male passenger who was riding in the front seat were taken by ambulance to the same hospital and were released after treatment, police said.

Mangum was driving a 2010 Nissan GT-R west on the LIE when he apparently lost control of the vehicle, struck the center median, crossed over the right shoulder and collided with the guardrail, police said.

The three had just come from a weekly car show at Bald Hill in Farmingville, Fourth Precinct detectives said.

The cause of the accident is under investigation, and police are asking anyone who has information about the crash to call the detectives at 631-854-8452 or Crime Stoppers at 800-220-TIPS (8477). All calls will be kept confidential, police said.
