The Ronkonkoma Fire Department responded to an early morning call to a Lake Ronkonkoma gas station that turned out to be just an incidence of smoke, police and fire officials.

The call came in at 6:55 a.m. Monday, police said. Binder Singh, manager of the Mobil station at Portion and Cleary roads, said he called 911 after customers reported that the top of the underground gas tank had popped up, and that he had looked in and seen smoke.

Portion and Cleary roads were closed for a short time, police said.

Officials had initially indicated there was a working fire.
