The Suffolk County SPCA is trying to determine who shot and killed a cat in East Patchogue, the animal protection agency said Wednesday.

The group announced a $2,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of those responsible for the death of the cat, found Tuesday on Hampton Street, said Suffolk SPCA Chief Roy Gross.

The cat was found a short distance away from a group of homes, in a marshy area of tall grass near the Great South Bay, according to a news release.

Anyone with information can call the Suffolk County SPCA at 631-382-7722. All calls will be kept confidential.
