A West Islip man who avoided paying personal income taxes was ordered Wednesday to do 840 hours of community service and pay $171,419 to the state, authorities said.

Louis Ladonna, 45, of 98 Wagstaff Lane, was also sentenced to 5 years of probation after earlier pleading guilty to first-degree offering a false instrument for filing, state tax officials said.

He had failed to pay his full 2007 taxes when he knowingly excluded income from the sale of houses on his 2008 tax returns, according to the complaint filed against him. The house sales totaled $1,849,881, the complaint said.

Ladonna's attorney could not be immediately reached Wednesday.
